Progress

Right now, I feel like it's time for a look back on how my goals for the year has been going in comparison to the goals I had set in the beginning of the year.

I have been surprisingly good at keeping up with my Random Acts of Kindness posts, which I'm excited about.  However, for some reason I can't really seem to get myself into the habit of posting on Wednesdays yet.  I always have the idea to, but once Wednesday comes around I feel like I'm so exhausted from the first three days of the week that I just need to go to sleep at 5:30 (which is me being ridiculous, by the way).

Organization has been a huge obstacle for me in my life and I feel like this is the year that I am actually going to be a (sort of) adult and get myself together.  So far, even though my room is always a mess, I still clean it once a week or so.  I've put together a binder of things to keep myself and my papers and ideas more organized so that I can actually do something productive.  On the whole idea of organizing, check out my Pinterest boards (DIY Projects & I'm movin' on out!).  I've been putting together a ton of ideas that I plan to employ after I move in a few months, and I have a few people who plan to keep me on track with these things.  I am just getting anxious to get started and staying in this house all the time is just making me more antsy.

So far, I feel like this year's plans are going pretty well, considering how they could potentially be going (or you know, not going at all).  I'm pretty pleased with myself.  However, constructive criticism and useful hints, tips and tricks are always welcome!

Netflix Obesession

I have a problem.

And the first step to recovery may be admitting to the fact you know you have a problem, but in this case, admitting it will only make it worse.

I have a Netflix obsession.  The only problem is, I watch all the episodes of a TV show or a movie that was recommended, but once I get to the very end of it, I'm completely lost on where to go from there.  Now, I now I'm not the only one with this problem.  I've seen at least a handful of my personal friends on Facebook asking what to watch next because they just finished watching (insert title here)  and now they're stuck.

This is my personal story of this all-too-familiar pattern:  I watched every episode of The Office (US), then watched all of Portlandia. I've seen all the episodes to date of The Walking Dead, and I've watched a few movies here and there (Battle Royale, Jeff Who Lives at Home) among other random things.

My question is, where do I go from here?  I've been interested in watching the Once Upon a Time series (but Netflix only has one season), have heard great things about Downtown Abbey (even though I haven't a clue what it's about), and have also been recommended Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and Sons of Anarchy.  I'm looking for suggestions, what you loved, what you hated, what you think everyone should be watching but might not be.  Movies are welcome as well, but I've heard a lot of TV shows I've been missing are things I really need to see..

Week 8

Hello again =)

This week's act of kindness is sort of a kindness to myself as well as to someone else and I've come to realize it's an ongoing process.  I started # 52 this week, which is to find a penpal.

I was a little hesitant to start this one because I know it's a creepy world and if I give someone my email address, they could possibly find my home address, hack my life and steal my identity, ooor worse...  So, needless to say, I didn't really jump all in with this one.  I've been searching the internet and I found a website called PenPalParty.com, which I recognized from my seventh grade French class when we were all forced to have penpals.  Luckily, that website was a huge starting point for me and I spent hours sifting and searching through the different files for different people in all different countries.

After all of the reading and weeding through, I found a handful of people that seemed interesting to me and also took the time to post my own file in case I missed an opportunity somewhere in the mix.  I've sent out a few e-mails to the people I had chosen and am still waiting for a reply, but hopefully someone will pull through soon so I can tell you about it.

It's kind of funny how nervous I am about this experience, now that I'm thinking about it...  I've never really put myself in the position of contacting someone I didn't know at all in hopes that they would reply and we could make conversations about random things, still without ever meeting each other.  I don't remember it being this way back in middle school, but I'm still (cautiously) optimistic about the whole idea of this!

Have any of you ever had a penpal?  Was it because of school or just because you wanted one for yourself?

Week 7 and Lots O' Stuff

Oh my gosh, what a busy week...  After digging ourselves out of nearly three feet of snow last weekend and waiting for bulldozers to clear the streets, I got to go out for dinner at Plan B on my birthday!  It was the first time I had ever been and even though they were super short staffed because of the storm everything was great.  Loved it, definitely going back.
Amazing Brie Appetizer

After that whole weekend of crazy, I got a little card from the organization I donated to for last weeks RAOK.  It was just a little thank you card, which was exciting because you kind of got a small thing in return for doing a small thing.  I don't know, I love getting mail (as long as it isn't a bill).  Which reminds me, my gift from my older sister for my birthday came in this week too, which I am so excited about and need to show ASAP.
Sneak peek at the madness

And speaking of getting mail, I got the mask I ordered for zombie march that comes with some pretty cool goggles, which I ordered around Christmas and it just came in... But I'm holding off on showing those until I get more of my things together (as well as myself) so you can kind of get the whole picture at once.  I still need to find a good hood, so if you know anywhere I can find one, please let me know.

( Side note:  Obviously, I need to make a huge picture post soon because I don't have pictures of any of the things I'm talking about this week...Look for it this coming Wednesday)

My aforementioned older sister moved out this morning to venture off to Oklahoma!  Although I'm so, so happy for her, it's still bittersweet and I'm really hoping my new next door neighbor (my youngest sister) is as quiet as she was.

Okay, back to the Sunday oriented post.  Today's random act of kindness was number 45 on the list:  Hide dollars in the dollar store toy section.

This one is a little self explanatory.  I went to the dollar store with a few dollars and tucked them away into paper bags that I had written a short note on and hid through the toys in the aisle.  I hope someone found them...  I'm starting to wonder if anyone is actually finding them that isn't just a store employee...

Week #6

Good morning to all!

I decided to get a jump start on my RAOK this week because I have a bad tendency, I've realized, to put it off until the last minute on Sunday nights.  Without further adieu, this week's act of kindness is #51 from the list:  Donate an animal or to a cause such as www.worldvision.org.

This website has been an eye opener for me.  They have an option to donate gifts for $25 and under, which is perfect for my budget restrictions.  They offer donation options from $10 all the way up to the thousands and everywhere in between and the items you can donate toward are endless.

I decided earlier in the year that, on my birthday, I would give a small donation to this organization ($10-$15) in honor of the occasion.  Looking through the possible causes under $25, I found one that kind of struck home with me.  There was a large picture on the top of the donation page I was looking at that advertised donating $10 toward the Child and Family Health Fund.

When I was 18, I was told I could not be on my parents' insurance anymore (this was before you could stay on until age 26) and was basically just out of luck as far as health care went.  From what I understand, going to a doctor or even having insurance or doctors available in other parts of the world is much less common than it is in the US, and people should always have that option as far as I am concerned.

So, this in the honor of my birthday and my (mostly) good health.  I hope it helps someone who really needs it.  Happy Sunday!

Blizzardy Birthday

Hello everybody and welcome to New England, which is buried underneath something like 18 inches of snow right now.  But don't you worry, it's going to keep pouring snow through the night and we will likely be unable to dig our way out until at least...May.

My older sister's fiance, Nick came home from Afghanistan yesterday!  Welcome home, I'm sure you're glad to be stuck in this after months of being in a desert! =)

Also, my birthday is on Sunday.  At first, I thought all of my plans for my birthday were going to be ruined by the blizzard, which made for a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.  However, My friend, Kaeley, is the best person ever and drove an hour up to my parents' house a day early and kidnap me for two night before I spend a night with another friend.

So far, Kaeley and I have planned and listed a lot of the things (and spent numerous hours on Pinterest looking at) things we need or could do for the house once I move in with her.  Productive, right?  We've also consumed almost an entire jug of Sunny D, half a gallon of Snapple iced tea and the majority of a box of chocolate covered banana slices, not to mention the baking projects we started a couple of hours ago.

This, my friends, is one of the baking projects we started.  At first, we were a little skeptical about it.  When making this cupcake, we wondered and doubted about (and were pleasantly surprised by) the outcome.  Zebra cupcakes!

I will be back Sunday to update on whether or not birthday plans commence, and to let you know all about my act of kindness this week!  Be safe if you're in the way of this blizzard!

RAOK Week 5 and Weekend News

This week's random act of kindness is actually the number one item on the list:  Leave money at a vending machine.

Hannah and I went on a most-of-the-day shopping trip, and during the trip I had forgotten to look for actual vending machines.  At the end of the day it was the last task to tackle, and unfortunately, no vending machines were to be found.  Instead, we left a paper bag with two dollars in it inside of a drink cooler in the store... Close enough, right?

Hannah and I also played with a sweet little golden retriever puppy at the mall today.  She was adorable and we loved her almost too much to leave without her.  Luckily, I'm in the market for a dog soon, so I'm hoping I can find one as sweet and playful as she is.
Also, in other news, Boyface got a tattoo!  It was his first one ever.  So proud of him =)
Have a fabulous beginning of the week, and congratulations if you're a Baltimore fan!
